CPT. MELENCIO ABALOS
Captain Abalos received his commission in December 2003 from the California State University Fresno ROTC program where he earned Distinguished Military Graduate honors. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Technology and received his first branch choice of Signal Corps upon the completion of ROTC.
After Signal Officer Basic Course in Fort Gordon, Georgia, CPT Abalos’ first duty station was overseas in Darmstadt, Germany where he started as Platoon Leader of 1st Platoon Alpha Company, 440th Tactical Signal Battalion. Later, he became Company XO of Bravo Company, 440th Tactical Signal Battalion. CPT Abalos deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF 05-07) with the 440th Signal Battalion in 2006. Upon redeployment from Iraq, CPT Abalos’ next duty assignment was with 5th Signal Command in Mannheim, Germany as the G3, Exercise Branch Plans Officer providing communications planning and oversight across the entire USAREUR Theater.
CPT Abalos’ awards include the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC); the National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; Army Overseas Service Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
