FALL FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE (FTX)

The Fall Field Training Exercise, or FTX, is a full week-end of training at the National Guard’s Camp near Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo. It is here that UCSB cadets, cadets from San Luis Obisbo, along with students from both schools train together, and experience hands on soldiers skills and tasks. The 1st morning begins with an obstacle course complete with ropes, barbed wire, balance beams and walls to jump over. The day continues with a paint ball range where students practice battle drills with a heightened sense of reality.
The Fall FTX also included a set of instruction in rappelling and mountaineering, led by SFC Brown, where each student had the opportunity to fast rope down the face of a rocky cliff. The next day of the FTX was dedicated entirely to marksmanship and range safety training, where the participants were exposed to basic rifle marksmanship. Cadets fired in two person groups, with the shooter alternating after firing a certain number of rounds.
